The Bible makes it very clear to us that faith is a spirit. There is a spirit of faith just as Paul describes to us in 2nd Corinthians chapter number 4 verse 13. I read, "we having the same spirit of faith according as it is written I believed and therefore have I spoken, we also believe and therefore we speak".
Paul says, "we having the same spirit of faith".
So you see, Paul describes faith as a spirit. Praise the Lord Jesus. Now the Holy Spirit is the spirit of faith and so this is the first thing that we've got to understand.
The second thing we also have to understand about the spirit of faith that Paul is describing is that our born-again spirit is also a spirit of faith. Praise the Lord Jesus. Why do I say so? I say this because our born-again spirit is the product of the Holy Spirit.
So if the Holy Spirit is the spirit of faith or described as the spirit of faith then it also means that our born again spirit which is like the holy spirit is also the spirit of faith. Just like a lion gives birth to a lion and an eagle also gives birth to an eagle, likewise the holy spirit gives birth to spirits that are just like himself, Hallelujah!
So you see if the Holy Spirit is the spirit of faith then it means that our born-again spirit also Is the spirit of faith.
So two very important things here. First of all, the Holy Spirit is the spirit of faith. All right. And then also our born again spirit, our recreated human spirit is also the spirit of faith because the Holy Spirit is the parent to our born again spirit. Praise the Lord Jesus.
Apart from faith being a spirit, we've also come to realize from Paul's statement in Romans chapter 1 verse 17 and Galatians chapter number 3 verse 11 also describes faith to be a way of living. And if a way of living, then it also means that faith is a way of thinking.
we're going to read Romans chapter number 1, verse 17. And then after that, we also read Galatians chapter number 3, verse 11.
Romans 1 17 says, "The just shall live by faith".
Which means to say that faith is also a way of living. All right, let's go to Galatians 3, verse 11 which says, "no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evidence for the just shall live by faith", praise God!
No man is justified by following the law in the sight of God hallelujah!
Who is the just? You know, a lot of people, when they come across this term, they get confused. But you don't have to be confused. Who is the just? Praise God. Now, that word "just" is a term used, in the New Testament to describe anyone who is born again. Anyone who has received Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior.
That is to say someone who is born again. A believer in Christ. Praise the Lord Jesus. Now, what makes you just as far as God is concerned is not the good things that you do. A lot of people have thought it's the good things they do that makes them just before God. But that's not what Paul teaches. That's not what the New Testament teaches.
What makes a person just in the sight of God is who the person believes in.who do you believe in? It is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ that a person becomes just as far as God is concerned.
When Paul uses the word, "just" Paul is simply referring to everyone who is born again, everyone who received Jesus Christ into their lives and as a result have become recreated in their spirits. They become born again in spirit. Paul says that "the just"; the righteous, that's another term, a synonymous term.
Some translations say the righteous shall live by faith.
The believer shall live by faith. Praise God. We live by faith. So you see, Paul is saying that faith is also a way of living hallelujah! So if the just is to live by faith, and we've also come to realize from the Word of GOD that the way a person lives is determined by the way they think or reason by their belief system which is also a product of their thinking, product of their reasoning. Hallelujah. So it means when Paul said the just shall live by faith, Paul is also telling us that faith is not just a way of living, but also a way of thinking. Praise the Lord Jesus.
Just as the Bible tells us in Proverbs 23, verse 7, it says...As he thinketh in his heart, so is he. That scripture is simply saying to us that the way people live their lives is a product of the way they think. So, If the just lives by faith, then it means faith is the way that the just ought to be thinking. We think the faith way. So when Paul says, the just shall live by faith, then it means we are to live by thinking the faith way.
We are to lead by thinking the faith way. There's a faith way to think. Faith should be a way of thinking. Now, how does this happen? How do we begin to think by faith? This is how it happens ; the more you hear the word of God, the more the word of God influences your mind. Hallelujah!. Making you become faith-minded. Making you become faith-conscious. Meaning that you begin to think the faith way. As you hear the Word of God again and again, the Word of God begins to influence your mind. Begins to make you faith-minded.
Your mind begins to get faith conscious. Thereby making you to begin to think faith thoughts, faith ways. You begin to reason in the way of faith.
Now, what do I mean by faith? What faith am I talking about? Now I'm going to give you the explanation. I'm going to define faith here, in a way that you're going to understand. It's going to help you to understand what I'm talking about. Praise the Lord Jesus.
What do I mean by faith? Now, hear me. Faith, is the revelation of Christ, which the Word of God brings to our heart and our mind that makes us respond in agreement with God concerning all that Christ has accomplished and provided for us in His life .we respond in agreement with God concerning the deity of Jesus Christ ,His perfect substitutionary sacrifice and finished work. You know, it also makes us to respond in agreement with God concerning who and what we are in Christ. What belongs to us and all that we possess in Christ through the new birth, praise God!.
And then also, Faith, which is the revelation of God's word about Christ, which I've been talking about, also makes us to respond in agreement with God, concerning God's unconditional love and goodness towards us. This is what faith is.
It's a revelation which the word of God unveils to our hearts and minds concerning Jesus and all that Jesus has done for us. So when Paul says the just shall live by faith, this is what he's talking about. He's simply saying the just shall live by thinking in God's own way. Praise God!.
By thinking the faith way, i.e., thinking in line with the revelation of Christ and all he has done for us in His perfect substitutionary sacrifice and finished work, which the word of God unveils to us. Hallelujah! We are to live our lives in this way of thinking and reasoning. Praise the Lord Jesus!.
So you see, the more we hear the word of God, the more this revelation comes to us from the word of God. The more we hear the word, the more the revelation is unveiled to our hearts and to our minds. And this revelation, as we embrace it begins to make us to think in agreement with God concerning these things that God's word revealed to us and about the things that belong to us in Christ, about who we are in Christ, about all that Jesus has accomplished for us, about God's unconditional love and his unconditional goodness towards us. Hallelujah!. So you see, you can grow, in your knowledge and understanding of God's Word. You can grow to a level of awareness, where you know the faith that you have in your born again spirit Rises to become dominant over your mind and over your entire mind and begins to govern your way of thinking and reasoning.
That's what Paul is talking about in Romans when he said that we've got to have our minds renewed to gospel truth.
You already have God's kind of faith in your born-again spirit and the more you hear God's word, this faith that is in your born-again spirit begins to leap up and it comes up into your mind realm and into your mental realm. As you embrace this truth, faith begins to take dominance. It begins to govern your way of thinking and reasoning. Hallelujah!.
To live by faith simply has to do with the way you think. It's not by fasting. 40 days, 50 days, 60 days. All of those things are dead works. Hallelujah!. That's not how to live by faith.
To live by faith has to do with the way you think. it has to do with you living based on the revelation of all that Jesus Christ has accomplished for you and all that he has done for you in the perfect substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus and his finished work.
This is because the way you live is determined by the way you think. That's what we saw in Proverbs 23, verse 7... as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. One translation says, "..so he lives". So, as a man thinketh in his heart, that is the way he lives.
So, if the just is to live by faith, then it means that we are to think the faith way. We are to think faith thoughts. We are to think in agreement with the revelation of all that Jesus Christ has done for us in his perfect substitutionary sacrifice. So, to live by faith simply means thinking the faith way.
